This evening our Treasurer and keen amateur photographer, Phil Gravett, treated us to his extensive travelogue with images from his recent cruise to Greenland. Phil is also a keen birder and his cruise was in part, designed to capture the birdlife. Capturing the birdlife was challenging, since Phil was frequently on a boat, bobbing about in the sea, with a very long lens. However, the birds were not his real focus - having visited the Falklands and the Antarctic, he wanted to go North and to specifically to see Greenland. Phil joined the ship in Iceland, and they made a couple of stops before taking a 28hr journey across to the East coast of Greenland. The vast scale of the landscape was incredible and Phil had done a good job of making us feel like we were there, with both wideangle and panorama images of the amazing cliff faces, glaciers and waterfalls. He also captured the glorious colour of the flora of Greenland as well as some of the fauna, as you see in this image of this majestic polar bear. We thank Phil for giving us a great insight of this type of photographic cruise, including the logistics of being on board, required clothing, getting out on the water, transferring to land etc. Visit Phil's website.
