Inter-Club Digital Competition Rules


  1. The Cambridge Camera Club Annual Digital Competition is open to any Club or Society registered with the East Anglian Federation of Photographic Societies, but will be restricted to the first 35 applications received with prompt payment of the entry fee.
  2. Each entry is to consist of a set of 5 images (to be assessed by the judge) plus a reserve image to be used in the event of a tie for 1st All 6 images must have been captured using a camera, but will most likely have been manipulated thereafter.  They must not have been shown in a previous CCC Inter-Club Digital Competition.  Images will be judged on originality and creativeness combined with technical excellence.  The author of each image must have undisputed copyright of the work, and representatives submitting images must take responsibility on behalf of their club for the probity of all the images.  Representatives must also confirm that they have permission from all authors for their images (and associated metadata) to be stored on the Cambridge Camera Club website and used for publicity purposes associated with the Competition.
  3. Each image should be in JPEG format with an embedded sRGB colour profile and not larger than 1600x1200 pixels (no wider than 1600px and no taller than 1200px).
  4. The 5 rounds of the Competition are as follows:
  • Round 1: Monochrome Open (any subject)
  • Round 2: People
  • Round 3: Landscape
  • Round 4: Nature
  • Round 5: Open (any subject)
  1. Definitions of Monochrome, People, Nature and Landscape are given in paragraphs 10 – 13. The Monochrome Open, Open and Reserve images may be of any subject. Round 1 must be a Monochrome image; all other rounds can be either Monochrome or Colour.
  2. No more than two images may be from any one author. An author who is a member of more than one Club may contribute through one Club only.
  3. Image submission is online via Cambridge Camera Club’s website (https://cambcc.org.uk/).
  4. The winning Club will be the one with the highest aggregate mark for all 5 images. In the event of a tie, the reserve images of the leading clubs will be judged.  A trophy for retention by the winning Club for one year will be awarded by Cambridge Camera Club.  The Roy Pitman award will be made to the author of the best image in the competition.
  5. All images must be submitted by the closing date and time, which is published on the website.
  6. Definition of Monochrome Category. Monochrome is defined as a black and white image or one which has been modified by the addition of a single tone to the entire image. All other images are defined as Colour images. A black & white image which has been modified by the addition of partial toning or by the addition of one colour to any part of the image is a Colour image.
  7. Definition of People Category. This is a picture where the principal subject of the photograph is either a person or group of people. This includes formal and informal portraits, figure studies, groups and people in action. Model releases are not required.
  8. Definition of Landscape Category. This category includes seascape and cityscape as well as landscape.
  9. Definition of Nature Category. Nature photographs must be accurate record shots of the living plant and animal world in their natural surroundings. Cultivated plants and domesticated animals are permitted provided they are presented in a factual manner.  However, mounted specimens and set arrangements are not permitted.  The photograph must convey the truth of what the author saw at the time of taking. Manipulation to images must be confined to exposure adjustments, colour correction and the removal of minor blemishes or distractions.  The only exception is Focus Stacking.  Colour images may be converted to Monochrome, but infrared images are not permitted.  Titles should be accurate and descriptive of the subject.
